Centurion improves its offering of ratchet straps

CENTURION Europe Ltd, one of the UK’s leading independent distributors of DIY and trade products including, hardware, ironmongery, gardening, plumbing and electrical has launched an improved, own-branded range of ratchet straps.

Paul Kantecki, managing director of Centurion commented, “As part of our range reviews we invest in research and development to ensure we offer the best products for our customers and the end user. We were seeing a lot of low quality ratchet straps out in the market, yet they play a vital role, not only in the haulage industry to ensure safe securing of loads but also leisure, farming, construction, storage, travel and transport. This means they have to be able to stand up to the job at the hand.”

Securing any load safely is also a legal requirement. According to the highways agency, in 2015 there were over 4,000 incidents involving ratchet straps. Not using ratchet straps or using old and unsuitable straps can cause loads to fall, which not only causes long traffic delays but also can cause injury and death.

Paul continued: “We worked hard to work with a manufacturer to provide us with a quality range of ratchet straps that would stand up to the rigorous strapping and securing they are designed for. Our range is tested up to load and features the test label which is a legal requirement, clearly detailing the straps' capabilities. We are proud to now have this range of ratchet straps added into the Centurion brand.

Centurion offer four grades of ratchet straps, Light Duty, Medium Duty, Heavy Duty and Commercial. These are all made from strong quality polyester webbing and provide widths of 25mm – 50mm, strength ratings from 750kg to 5,000kg and lengths from 4.5m to 10m. So, whether it be a large object that needs securing to a pallet or keeping your possessions attached to your car, Centurion's range offers a ratchet strap for any application.

As with every product launch, Centurion has also introduced POS and merchandising options for their retail customers, as they understand merchandising the product right in store is important to grow sales.

Centurion also offers a selection of products to complement this range including luggage straps and tarpaulins.

Construction dust control focus pays off for Armorgard

WORK platform specialist Armorgard has reported a 'substantial' increase in sales of its ground-breaking CuttingStation SS7X, following the recent HSE blitz on site dust.

Latest sales figures show a widespread uptake of these extraction and air filtration enabled mobile workstations, which are becoming an essential part of measures put in place by construction sites to protect workers’ lungs from the likes of asbestos, silica and wood dust.

Firms across mainland UK were subject to a series of inspections by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in June this year focusing on dust control.

Growth in the dust extraction equipment market is also being influenced by a greater focus on collaboration between contractors and manufacturers to come up with designs and concepts for new solutions to health and safety challenges.

Armorgard say their annual Innovation Workshop, which takes place in London this week, has seen a marked increase in the number of senior safety, site or project-management representatives in attendance.

The firm said its long-held policy of supplying high grade products as solutions that increase health and safety to UK construction had paid-off.

“Our approach of the last few years to focus on end user innovation is showing strong results with positive customer feedback and a robust, sustainable forward order book,” said Armorgard's managing director, Terry Mitchell.

"As the company does with all its high-quality security and safety products, Armorgard sought end-user input on safety imperatives and design improvements. The CuttingStation SS7X design has arguably revolutionised on-site cutting, reducing exposure to noise and dust, and eliminating any requirement to provide a separate cutting area on site.”

Norton Clipper launches mini masonry saw to boost summer sales

NORTON Clipper has introduced an all new masonry saw to its range, promoting safer and smarter working, in order to help distributors to boost sales throughout the summer months.

In 2016, over 30 million work days were lost in the UK due to musculoskeletal problems. With heavy and unequal lifting, incorrect posture stance, long hours, repetitive tasks and heavy tool belts affecting the health of builders and landscapers up and down the country, lower back pain is becoming a leading cause of lost workdays and disability in the UK.

Using a handheld saw for prolonged periods of time can quickly begin to take its toll on any tradesperson, and even a masonry saw can be problematic when lifting and transporting from one place to another. Plus, a handheld saw is often in use close to the body, in the direction of feet and legs, creating the very real possibility of serious injury if the user slips or accidently moves.

Norton Clipper’s CM35 mini masonry saw is ergonomically designed to be compact and lightweight, ideal for cutting at ground level, putting less pressure on the joints, muscles and back. This much needed solution is a must for merchants and stockists to promote in time for summer renovations.

Weighing in at just 40 kilograms and measuring around 30% smaller than other masonry saws in the Norton Clipper range, the CM35 is a modest, portable machine that performs just as well as its larger Norton Clipper counterparts.

With sleek dimensions of just 730mm x 286mm x 282mm, the CM35 Mini Clipper holds key advantages over more heavy-duty machines – allowing users to cut building materials closer to the point of installation, minimising any bending or lifting and therefore decreasing strain on the body, as well as improving efficiency and workloads on site.

The CM35 is electric and features a dust extraction port to minimise dust during use. Wet cutting is also an option with the Mini Clipper, as it is easily plugged into an external water supply.

As the machine has no legs – although wheels and legs can be added as additional accessories – the CM35 is an ideal choice for landscape gardeners and builders who prefer cutting at ground level.

Dave Thompson, National Sales Manager at Norton Clipper comments: “We saw a greatly successful debut at the Bauma 2019 exhibition where the CM35 mini masonry saw captured a lot of attention. We believe this excitement will continue throughout the year as merchants and retailers benefit from increased demand for the Mini Clipper.”

Ecoline+ hits the mark at Watford FC

PITCHMARK'S Ecoline+ has become the line marking paint of choice for FA Premier League club Watford FC.

The demand for using a premium paint at the Vicarage Road stadium led to trials last season, since when Pitchmark have been further developing Ecoline+. Watford FC became the first to use the improved formula at the opening game of the season against Brighton and Hove Albion in August this year.

In 2018 Scott Tingley, Head Groundsman at Watford FC, set out on what was originally a cost exercise and to see if they could establish the use of one paint for all marking.

“We were using top end paint for the stadium and bottom end for the other pitches,” he says, “we wanted to make it one paint but of course the cost had to be taken into account. We looked at Pitchmark and what we found different was their specialisation solely in line marking products.”

The club had been using Pitchmark’s Direct at the Watford FC training ground and academy, located at the University College London Union Shenley Sports grounds in St Albans. Home to five full-size and two goalkeeping/warmup natural grass training pitches as well as a full-size artificial turf training pitch and fourteen college/academy natural grass pitches, there’s a sizeable amount of line marking required. In the stadium only premium quality is acceptable. Ecoline+ offered the ideal all-round solution.  Ecoline+ is one of the most advanced, low volume, ready-to-use line marking paints available, especially when used in combination with Pitchmark’s Eco and Hybrid markers and special nozzles.

Scott says: “we trialled Ecoline+ and we had no issues, only benefits. We use a Pitchmark Hybrid marker which gives us the quality of a spray marker, without compromising the precision and quality of a transfer marker. Fixture dependent, we can mark up to three times a week and with the traditional wheel to wheel and four-wheel spray markers you lose ground cover and it’s too easy to transfer paint.”

The Pitchmark Hybrid overcomes these problems with a three-wheeled spray design, which is easily manoeuvred over wet lines. The cone nozzles give perfect deep leaf coverage, so you only need one pass.

“It’s easy to use, it feels like a normal wheel marker and you get premium quality.” Scott adds, “it’s quite complex though and needs looking after but if we have any issues Olly Boys, the Turfix rep, gives us second to none service and back-up.” (Turfix is Pitchmark’s recently formed sole UK distribution arm). Using advanced Ecoline+ Watford FC join the many examples of Ecoline+ premium line marking seen every week on TV from the best leagues in the world, including the English Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

Genny Hire buys ‘Rig-Safe’ Trime lighting towers

GENNY Hire Limited - the Aberdeen based hirer of power generation, lighting towers and associated equipment - has begun a process to upgrade its fleet of lighting towers with the purchase of ten X-ECO LED sets from Trime UK Limited.

These X-ECO LED units were fitted with Chalwyn valves and spark arresters making them ideally suited for use on refinery, petro-chemical sites and any other environments where 'rig-safe' specifications are a prerequisite.

Representatives from Genny Hire first saw the X-ECO LED at the Executive Hire Show Scotland and completed their research online. They then compared the Trime X-ECO LED sets with other models currently on the market. Genny Hire finally opted for the Trime product, citing the high specifications of the machine along with swift delivery times and the very prompt attention given by Andrew Owen, Trime UK’s northern sales manager.

Lorna Clark from Genny Hire said: “We aim to hire these lighting towers into refinery and petro-chemical sites. This is an area of our business we are seeking to develop and as the oil and gas sector market becomes busier in Aberdeen again, we will have the correct specification of machines readily available.”

She added: “We are very impressed with the service we have received from Trime. They handled the initial sales enquiry with enthusiasm and their service department came up to our depot to complete a training course. Spare parts are always available from stock, which means we can maintain our fleet at all times.”

The X-ECO LED has a number of environmental qualities and safety aspects. The set is fitted with the AMOSS safety system, which automatically lowers the mast if the lighting set is moved whilst the mast is still erected. The complete unit features an external emergency stop button, a fully bunded fuel tank, four height adjustable stabilisers and site levels for guidance during deployment. The energy saving LED lamps will work for up to 2,000 hours without replacement.

Genny Hire was incorporated in December 2008. It rents generators, lighting towers and associated equipment throughout North East Scotland. Its services are readily available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week on a call out basis.

The Trime Group has over 50 years of experience in the development and marketing of environmentally sustainable lighting sets for the rail, off-shore, event, construction and rental markets. Trime UK is headquartered in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire; its manufacturing plant is based near Milan, Italy.
