Wiha wins Red Dot award with new slimBit boxes

HAND tool manufacturer Wiha has been honoured with a Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019. Its new slimBit boxes have earned the prestigious Red Dot, which the meticulous jury awards exclusively to products displaying excellent design.

Wiha has created a compact transport, removal and storage option with its new slimBit boxes for 6 or 12 slimBits. The product has been developed to provide users with a significant advantage in handling slimBits during their day-to-day professional life.

In the large sets, 12 slimBits with different profiles are stored in two boxes containing six bits each. This allows users to carry slimBits around safely, neatly arranged in a box. When open, the box offers users an optimum view of screw profiles, enabling users to select and remove profiles quickly. Users can handle profiles with a single hand thanks to the practical belt clip.

Wiha slimBits excel due to their slender shape and protection against electric shock, making them particularly advantageous for use in the electrician's trade. They have been developed based on new market knowledge and user surveys to offer a functional solution with added value.

"Being awarded the Red Dot affirms the high design quality behind the product. We are immensely proud that the special features in the product's design have been recognised and honoured with the Red Dot," said a pleased Ronny Lindskog, Wiha's Director of Sales and Marketing.

Professor Peter Zec, the Red Dot initiator and CEO, also praised the winner: "I congratulate the award winners warmly on their great success. The fact that their products were able to hold their ground during the jury's strict assessment is a testament to their exceptional design quality. This allows the winners to set influential trends in the design sector and point the way to where things may lead in the future."

The Red Dot Award: Product Design is one of the world's largest design competitions. Designers and manufacturers from 55 countries submitted more than 5,500 products to the competition in 2019. The international jury, composed of acknowledged experts from different fields, have been coming together for over 60 years to seek out the best designs. During the assessment process over several days, they attach great importance to criteria such as degree of innovation, form quality, functionality, durability and ergonomic design.

Bahco holds the key to tool storage

AS workshop managers come under relentless pressure to deliver improved productivity, often with fewer skilled hands, the benefits of professional tool storage and management grow stronger.

Bahco’s highly flexible Ergonomic Tool Management system, BETMS, enables engineers, technicians, mechanics and other tool users working in trade or industry to know exactly where to find every tool they need, when they need it, saving time and easing stress.

Bahco’s Configurator software is the driving force, enabling customers to choose the size, style and colours of tool storage trolleys and judge how many drawers they will need to hold each tool group.

Lubricant resistant foam inlays in each profiled drawer can be customised to provide the logical, easy access layout of tools and equipment which professional tool users require.

It’s a tailor made system designed to help deliver great performance and results.

Also, noticing that a tool is missing from its designated place in a drawer protects against the risk of foreign object debris and the potential for damage it can cause.

Already in widespread global use within the aerospace, automotive and oil and gas sectors, Bahco’s tool management system brings order to schedule and budget driven workplaces.

Prolectric acquires the Solatainer solar generator

PROLECTRIC, the UK’s fast-growing supplier of temporary solar lighting and off-grid power for highways, rail and infrastructure projects, has acquired the Solatainer® solar generator. The Prolectric acquisition includes all Solatainer assets and intellectual property.

The Solatainer is the UK's first autonomous, solar-powered, off-grid generator and has a proven track record in use at more than 50 sites in the rail and construction sectors nationwide.

The acquisition, from Gaia Renewables Ltd, makes Prolectric the UK’s first specialist single-source supplier for off-grid renewable light and power. It will make it easier for contractors to use renewable energy on site to reduce their fuel costs, noise, NOx, PM and carbon emissions.

“We are delighted to confirm the acquisition, which supports our vision to provide everything our customers need to end their reliance on diesel and operate a 'Site of the Future' using renewable power and light,” said Chris Williams, Managing Director of Prolectric Ltd.

The Solatainer is immediately available to Prolectric customers. The Solatainer delivers up to 25kW of reliable, on-demand, off-grid power. Modelled on a standard 20ft shipping container, the Solatainer’s array of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels charges on-board lithium ion or deep-cycle lead acid battery storage, with a diesel generator providing only occasional back-up power. Fuel usage is reduced by 80% compared to a conventional diesel generator.

As part of the agreement, Stuart Thomas and Jamie Morris, who invented and developed the Solatainer, will continue to be responsible for overseeing its manufacture from its production facility near Swansea, South Wales.

“The Solatainer generator perfectly complements our temporary solar lighting range," Williams continued. "Both technologies deliver low or zero in-use carbon emissions and are usually needed on the same construction and rail welfare compounds. Both also dramatically reduce the noise nuisance of diesel generators close to residential areas, especially during night-time working.

"We've listened to our customers and we know they would prefer a 100% reliable, renewable energy on-site operation that is sourced, delivered and set up through a single supplier, and available via direct hire or cross-hire as they require."

The popularity of Prolectric’s temporary lighting range, including the ProLightTM Solar Lighting Tower, ProTempTM Solar Lighting Column and ProTrackTM link lighting system, has powered the company’s rapid expansion during the past two years. As result, the UK construction industry has already made significant savings in CO2 emissions, manpower and fuel costs, as well as helping to reduce air pollution in urban locations.

Since its introduction in spring 2017, Prolectric’s solar lighting has been enthusiastically adopted by major UK main contractors, because it has given the industry the first fully-viable alternative to diesel tower lighting on construction and infrastructure projects. Prolectric trebled sales and production staff to 21 during 2018 and doubled the size of its Somerset factory to 24,000 sq m to be ready for continuing expected demand.

PK Safety to exhibit Stop ‘N’ Go safety gloves at Safety & Health Expo 2019

PK SAFETY, one of the UK’s leading PPE and workwear suppliers, are happy to announce they will be exhibiting at Safety & Health Expo with their Stop ‘N’ Go range.

Last year, PK Safety set themselves a goal to dramatically reduce reversing incidents and accidents in the waste collection and transfer sectors with the launch of their Stop’N’Go safety gloves. The gloves have been designed for use by banksmen and reversing assistants, coloured red and green on the palm and back of the hand to respectively align with the hand signals suggested by the HSE for communicating with reversing vehicles.

The range has been designed with the collaboration of SUEZ R&R Ltd and has been created with the aim of providing a simple and convenient solution to improving reversing operations both on-site and whilst undertaking collection rounds.

Roy Wells (Managing Director of PK Safety) explained “It’s such a simple idea, we can’t believe it hasn’t been done before. We’ve had fantastic feedback from everyone we’ve presented the Stop ‘N’ Go concept to. There is nothing to install, nothing to hold and nothing you need to be trained on which makes it a convenient switch from your current safety gloves. No stress, no mess. We’ve kept it nice and simple, how safety should be.”

As Safety & Health Expo is Europe’s leading health and safety event, which welcomes over 14,000 professionals every year, it’s the perfect event to showcase the brilliance of Stop ‘N’ Go.

The exhibition gives visitors the chance to source health and safety solutions from over 300 suppliers across the globe, including things like site safety, footwear, gloves, training, behavioural safety and more. It’s a great way to improve your knowledge, network with others in the industry and access over 75 CPD-accredited seminars covering important topics over the three days.

It will also provide an excellent opportunity to meet some of the PK Safety team, discuss any PPE or workwear requirements, as well as seeing the Stop ‘N’ Go range first hand. They will be demonstrating the full range on Stand SH2416, from 18-20 June, at the ExCeL in London, as well as covering everything PPE and Workwear related. Throughout the day, PK Safety’s expert team will be available to answer any questions you may have.
